Course Details

An introductory course focusing on the key skills necessary for survival in the wilderness and is intened for individuals interested in increasing their survival capabilities in the outdoors. Topics that are covered include predator awareness, food and water collection, appropriate clothing and equipment. Students will have a chance to practice shelter building techniques using resources found in the wilderness, as well as fire starting and signaling techniques. The 7-steps to survival will also be presented and the participants will have the opportunity to demonstrate these practical skills. (Formerly SAR170)

This course is for active members of recognized Search and Rescue (SAR) Groups in British Columbia. To apply, go to www.jibc.ca/sar and look for the link to the application form. The application form must be signed by the Training Officer or member of the Management Team of your SAR Group.
