Course Details

This course provides learners with an overview of the phases and psychological impacts an emergency or disaster can have on individuals and community. This course will describe how the unique Critical Incident Stress Management (CISM) roles can be applied to supporting and managing the psychosocial and mental health and wellness needs of responders and community before, during and after a disaster. Course content identifies models designed for delivering CISM interventions that support a healthy response. Learners will develop skills to assess appropriate timing for promoting psychological recovery and resilience. Learners will gain an understanding of emergency response goals and the levels of response (local, provincial, federal) to assist knowing when and where to integrate their role in responding to a community impacted by a disaster.
