PREREQUISITE ALERT: Completion of the Trauma-Informed Practice (TIP) Foundations Online course offered through the Canadian Police Knowledge Network (CPKN) is required before attending the in-person course.
To register for the online TIP Foundations course, please complete and submit CPKN's online application form: www.cpkn.ca/en/tip-jpsav.
TRAUMA-INFORMED PRACTICE (TIP) FOUNDATIONS IN-PERSON COURSE FOR JUSTICE, PUBLIC SAFETY, AND ANTI-VIOLENCE COMMUNITY SECTORS IN BRITISH COLUMBIA is ONLY open to those currently employed in one of the five designated justice, public safety, and anti-violence community sectors identified as corrections, Crown, lawyers, police, and victim services/anti-violence programs.
This cross-sector in-person TIP Foundations course reinforces the content of the online TIP Foundations course to further develop knowledge, confidence, and skill in working in a "trauma-informed way". It will support learners in recognizing and understanding trauma and its effects on victims/survivors and witnesses and having a clear understanding of how violence and abuse may shape victims/survivors responses; assessing their own practices and processes with a trauma-informed lens; and incorporating trauma-informed learnings to reduce potential re-traumatization experienced by victims/survivors and witnesses participating in the justice system. Understanding of TIP will be deepened through participation in applied learning activities that support justice system partners to operationalize TIP principles and practices in their own work contexts and support cross-sectoral collaboration. Learners will explore tools and resources for taking TIP back to their work environment.
Finding your Sector Specific code: The section code located in the blue bar at the top of each course offering includes specific sector codes identified as follows: C=Corrections; L=Lawyers; M=Crown; P=Police; V=Victim Services/Anti-Violence community. Section codes are listed by course number, location, sector code, and section number. For example: COUN-1040-OLC01 indicates "COUN-1040" = course number, "OL" = online, "C" = sector specific code for corrections and "O1" = section number
If your sector is full: please check alternate dates, or where there are available seats designated to a specific sector three weeks prior to the start date of the course, those seats will be made available on a first-come, first-served basis to any JPSAV member.
