Fire Apparatus Maneuvering

This one-day course combines fire apparatus hands-on driver training, classroom theory and a practical evaluation component. Training is conducted at our JIBC Traffic Safety and Injury Prevention Centre at the Pitt Meadows Airport (A track can also be custom-measured at a suitable site in your community). The Fire Apparatus Maneuvering course is designed to introduce students to the practical maneuvering requirements of Chapter Four of the NFPA 1002 Standard for a Fire Apparatus Driver/Operator. This program focuses on total control steering techniques, threshold braking, apparatus balance and limitations, vehicle reference points, driver attitude and limitations. While driving a Fire Engine through and around pylons, students will be coached through a variety of challenging exercises including: 90 degree turns; Serpentine; slalom; Decision maker; Lane changes; 20 meter arc; Precision lane; Alley docks; Confined space turn around and Diminishing clearance lane. Successful participants will receive a letter of completion for the practical maneuvering requirements of NFPA 1002 4.3.2, 4.3.3, 4.3.4 and 4.3.5, 2009 edition.
