Criminal Law and Investigation

This course explores the principles, nature, purpose, and sources of Canadian Criminal Law within the context of a law enforcement environment. Through the use of case studies learners will utilize investigation skills and develop and implement an investigative plan. Learners will also examine the various categories of criminal and non-criminal scenarios and apply this knowledge to determine the elements of offence(s} required for conviction and defenses available to an accused. Learners will also explore Charter of Rights and Freedoms and the impact within the Canadian court system.
