Course Details
Defusing and crisis management briefings (CMB) are two of the key interventions in a critical incident stress management (CISM) program. To successfully participate on a critical incident stress management (CISM) team, learners must become proficient in these skills. In this course learners will examine the role of groups and dyads in trauma and crisis intervention, develop communication skills to build an effective support relationship, analyze when to use defusing strategies and apply post-incident defusing interventions. Learners will be able to explain the elements of a CMB and demonstrate how cultural practices and post-trauma elements are incorporated into a CMB. By the end of the course, learners will have demonstrated skills to lead a defusing and have participated in the development of a CMB.
