Course Details
This course introduces Fire Officers to applicable acts, codes, bylaws and standards that form fire prevention legislation in the province of British Columbia and the relationship among them. Learners will gain knowledge about the inspection process and be able to identify hazards, including dangerous goods in a variety of occupancies. Learners will identify types of building construction and alarm, detection and suppression systems. For pre-incident planning, learners will also identify building features that contribute to the spread of fire, heat and smoke throughout a building, or from one building to another.
This is one course in the JIBC Fire Officer program intended to meet the NFPA 1021 Standard progressing through the first level of Fire Officer Qualification, Fire Officer I (supervisory). The following areas of responsibility will be covered: human resource management, community and government relations, administration, inspection and investigation, emergency service delivery and health and safety.
