A Standards-based Program
Complete a program aligned with the British Columbia Fire Service Minimum Training Standards for interior firefighting set by the BC Office of the Fire Commissioner.
Credit to NFPA Certification
Gain credit toward NFPA 1001 Firefighter I certification for subjects completed and evaluated.

What You Need to Graduate
This program consists of seven courses. They are a mix of online and hands-on, classroom courses.
Students have 12 months to complete a course from the date of registration.
Students have up to two years (24 months) to complete all the courses in the program to receive a Certificate of Completion.
Program Format
Courses are online and in-person (in-person), at a JIBC campus or designated firefighter training facility in the community.

Exams & Evaluations
Online Final Theory Examination
Online final theory examinations must be requested for each student by the department training officer (or department designate) and must be proctored. Students must be registered in the course before training officers can request the exams.
Students must have successfully completed all two FIRE-1055 Knowledge Quizzes before requesting to take the final exam.
- Quiz 1 is made up of Module 1 and Module 2.
- Quiz 2 is made up of Module 3 and Module 4.
Students must achieve a minimum passing grade of 60% on all quizzes and the final theory exam.
Fire departments can register their members by submitting the group knowledge final exam request form for fire departments.
Individuals (general public/industry/non-fire department staff) can register via the knowledge final exam request form for individuals.
Practical Skills Evaluations
Skills evaluation requests are only available to students currently registered in FIRE-1056.
Skills evaluations must be requested for each student by the department training officer (or department designate) and must be evaluated by a JIBC-certified evaluator.
Each student will be required to complete a selection of mandatory and randomly selected skills successfully.

Textbooks & Supplies
Course manuals are supplied when you attend class. If additional books or other materials are required, you will be advised of the details after you are accepted into the program.
STEP 1 - Determine Eligibility
This program is open to fire service personnel only. Prerequisites are based on fire department criteria. Students must be registered by their training officer or department designate.
An application fee of $75 will be charged per student for the level of service training you request (Exterior, Interior or Full Service).
If a student is already registered into the Basic, FFI or FFI & II, this fee will be waived.
If a student has already been registered into the Exterior Firefighter Operations program with the intent to train to the Interior and/or Full Service, then there is no additional program fee.

STEP 3 - Register for Courses
After submitting your program application form, you can register for your courses by completing the course registration form and submitting it to vocationalfftc@jibc.ca.
If you don’t have a JIBC number for your students, you can still submit the form making sure that you have filled in the DOB field.
Allow up to 14 business days to complete the course registration process.

Training officers must submit their members' Program Application Form to the Admissions Office with a $75 application fee per student.

Q: How long do I have to complete a course?
A: Students have 12 months to complete a course from the date of registration.

Q: What is the Withdrawal Policy for this program?
A: There is a $50 non-refundable administrative fee per student from the date of a course registration form is received. The course fees are non-refundable from the date the student and/or the Training Assistant information is emailed. Registration/Course fees are non-transferable.
Upon successful registration, training officers and firefighting students will receive an email with directions on how to access their courses. Once registered into FIRE-1055 and/or FIRE-1056, students will have 12 months to complete the course.
Q: What are the start dates?
A: For course registration requests received between the 1st and the 15th of the month, the course start date will be the 1st of the following month.
For course registration requests received between the 16th and the last day of the month, the course start date will be the 15th of the following month.

Q: When are the Program Completion Certificates issued?
A: JIBC Certificates of Completion for Fire & Safety Division (FSD) programs are printed and mailed out to graduates on a quarterly basis. Certificates are produced in February, May, August, and November for students who have completed the program in the relevant preceding three-month period. If you do not receive your certificate, contact FSD at fire@jibc.ca.
