Are you a BC security guard who uses canines? Then you must hold a Canine Security Validation certificate from the the BC Registrar of Security Services.
Before you can apply for authorization, you must pass JIBC's Validation Standards Competency Test.
The JIBC Private Security Industry Canine Program administers the validation of canine teams for licensed security workers and trained canines. It does not offer or recommend specific training for canine teams.
Validation Tests
Validation of canine teams is based on the minimum performance standards. These standards are developed by JIBC and the Ministry of Justice, Security Programs and Police Technology Division.
The validation tests are conducted by a JIBC qualified evaluator in accordance with the Security Dog Validation Standards (PDF) handout. Validations must be renewed each year.
The validation tests, or required tasks, are designed to determine the proficiency and reliability of the canine team in two distinct profiles:
- Protection (including Human Scent detection)
- Signature Odour Scent Work (Narcotic or Explosives)
Successful Completion
Students will receive a Canine Security Validation Certificate for one of the two profiles and a copy of their validation test results.
Contact the JIBC Private Security Industry Canine Program to schedule a validation.
