Eddy Elmer is a gerontologist and researcher dedicated to equity, diversity, and inclusion. He is a public speaker, guest lecturer, and media contributor with extensive expertise in aging, sexuality, mental health, and community corrections.
Since 2018, Eddy has been involved with the Correctional Service of Canada's Citizen Advisory Committees, currently serving as the Pacific Region chair and National Executive vice-chair. He also co-chairs the Sexual Orientation and Gender Diversity Liaison Committee at the Vancouver Police Department. Additionally, he has been active with the City of Vancouver since 2012, currently co-chairing the 2SLGBTQ+ Advisory Committee and previously serving as secretary for the Older Persons and Elders Advisory Committee.
His work in organizing global webinars for corrections professionals, healthcare providers, and academics earned him the 2022 James A. Murphy Award from the Correctional Service of Canada.
Eddy holds a BA in psychology, a bachelor of general studies, and an MA in gerontology, all from Simon Fraser University. He is currently completing his PhD in sociology and social serontology at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, focusing on stigma, aging, and loneliness among 2SLGBTQ+ individuals worldwide.
