Exceptional hands-on training
Gain exceptional hands-on training by JIBC instructors, at the correctional centre where you are hired.
Mentorship
Be mentored by senior officers, who support your continuous development, as you complete the training.
This program is available to recently hired Adult Correctional Officers serving in BC Corrections.
Program strengths
Adult Correctional Officer Training is dynamic and informative, providing new officers with the skills they need to manage individuals in correctional centres.
Adult Correctional Officer training provides the skills required for Correctional Officers to supervise sentenced and remanded adult individuals in correctional centres throughout British Columbia.
Adult Correctional Officer training is a blend of online and in-person courses, developed by BC Corrections and the Justice Institute of British Columbia.
Block training consists of: Security Officer Orientation, Basic Security Officer training, and Advanced Security Officer training.
This training is facilitated over a 18-month period by experienced officers.
After completion of the Adult Correctional Officer training, there are opportunities for officers to participate in extensive ongoing training throughout their career.
Textbooks & Supplies
Course manuals are supplied when you attend class.
This program is available to recently hired Adult Correctional Officers serving in BC Corrections.
All applications to become a correctional officer are made to BC Corrections, Adult Custody Division.
Q: Can I take courses in this program?
A: Courses in this program are available on a customized contract basis to organizations that require and benefit from the applied knowledge and specialized skills taught. For more information, please contact the Corrections & Court Services Division.
Q: Are these courses available for international students?
A: These courses are not available for individual registration. Organizations outside British Columbia or Canada interested in providing these courses to their employees are invited to contact the JIBC Office of International Affairs for further information.
