Shubhparteek Singh recognized for capstone project for Post-Baccalaureate Diploma in Disaster Management.
The Justice Institute of British Columbia (JIBC) is proud to announce that Shubhparteek Singh, a recent graduate of the Post-Baccalaureate Diploma in Disaster Management, has been recognized with a Student Award from Disaster Recovery Institute Canada (DRI). Part of DRI’s annual Awards of Excellence, this award recognizes a post-secondary student who, in the past year, has presented an exceptional scholarly project or work that is relevant to and adds value to the fields of business continuity, disaster recovery, or emergency management.
Capstone project focused on challenges faced by NGOs
Singh’s award-winning capstone project focused on addressing critical challenges faced by non-governmental organizations (NGOs) during disaster response and recovery. The project examined the complexities involved in disaster management practices, such as political interference, communication gaps, coordination issues, and resource allocation challenges, and ways to improve them.
His in-depth literature review of reports, case studies, and academic articles led to practical recommendations to enhance NGO effectiveness. Singh emphasized strategies such as fostering interagency communication, advocating for supportive legislation, and forming strong partnerships for resource distribution.
Credits JIBC for supportive learning environment
Reflecting on his experience at JIBC, Singh expressed his gratitude for the support and encouragement he received throughout his academic journey. “The constant support and motivation I received from my instructors, peers, and program supervisors made this journey enriching,” said Singh. “The hands-on, real-world learning at JIBC equipped me with the skills and confidence to tackle my project effectively.”
Singh thanked his instructors in the Emergency Management Division, including Bettina Williams, Ambreen Qazi, and Daniella Gentile, for their guidance in refining his research and methodology. He also credited the JIBC library as a “veritable gold mine” of resources that were instrumental in his literature review.
The DRI Canada Student Award and Scholarship celebrates innovative projects like Singh’s that add significant value to the disaster and emergency management sector. Singh’s achievement not only reflects his personal dedication but also underscores the strength of JIBC’s programs in developing real-world expertise. He said he aspires to give back to the JIBC community one day as an instructor, helping to build resilient communities.
“This award reflects not just my efforts but the collective encouragement and support of the JIBC community,” Singh said. “To future students, I encourage you to embrace opportunities like these—they can truly transform your career.”
Congratulations, Shubhparteek Singh, on this remarkable achievement!
