Through the Community Workforce Response Grant, eligible students can complete JIBC’s Firefighting Technologies Certificate program at no cost.

If you’ve always wanted to be a firefighter and your current employment prospects have been impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic, the Justice Institute of British Columbia (JIBC) has a special opportunity for you to pursue this rewarding career.

The JIBC Fire & Safety Division is accepting applications for a special offering of its accredited pre-employment firefighter certificate program available at no cost to eligible students in B.C.

Funding for this cohort of students in the Firefighting Technologies Certificate program is provided by the Government of B.C., and the Government of Canada through the Canada-British Columbia Workforce Development Agreement. Prospective students who have been unemployed or precariously employed (part-time, seasonal or casual) during the COVID-19 pandemic, and are exploring new career opportunities, are eligible to apply.

Students who complete JIBC’s Firefighting Technologies Certificate program obtain their National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) 1001 certification accredited by the International Fire Service Accreditation Congress (IFSAC) and the Pro Board®. With this certificate, graduates become sought-after recruit candidates who are prepared to pursue careers in the fire service.

Students interested in this opportunity are encouraged to apply and complete the necessary prerequisites as soon as possible to secure their seat. Only 20 fully funded students will be admitted into this special cohort that starts Feb. 14, 2022.

Applicants have until Jan. 6, 2022 to submit an application through EducationPlannerBC and provide all the necessary documents.
