Interlibrary Loans

Eligible borrowers can obtain library materials not owned by JIBC Library using our interlibrary loan service (ILL).

ILL materials are mailed to those who are unable to come to the New Westminster campus. All others must pick up their items at the JIBC New Westminster campus.

Scanned articles and book chapters will be forwarded via email to requestors.

  • Books: Seven to 10 working days
  • Articles (including newspapers) and book chapters: One to three days.
  • Overseas loans: Up to eight weeks.

Note
Delivery times are approximate and cannot be guaranteed. They are dependent upon many factors outside the library's control including the location of the supplier, availability of the material and the time spent in transit.

The time frame varies according to the institution but is generally between two to eight weeks.

Note
Loans are subject to recall by the supplying library. Copied articles and book chapters are yours to keep.

For distance students, requesting an ILL in book format through your local public library may be a better option. This will ensure that you get the material directly from your local library and will give you a more extended borrowing period since shipping time will be reduced.

A due date slip will be attached to the cover of the book or DVD. Return it by the due date so that we can mail it back to the lending library. If the item was mailed to you, return it in the prepaid mailing envelope.

If you require the material for a more extended period of time, contact the library by email or phone (604.528.5599) to request a renewal.

There is no direct charge to the borrower for the first 15 items borrowed per year. The library absorbs the initial fees.

However, once you borrow 16 items or more, there will be a charge of $10 per item requested. The borrower is also financially responsible for any costs incurred through loss or damage of the borrowed material.
