English Language Proficiency
English is the language of instruction for all programs at JIBC and students must demonstrate an acceptable level of English language proficiency for admission to their program of choice. International students should review the admission requirements and equivalencies tables before applying for a program:

Testing Options
Applicants whose first language is not English may meet English proficiency requirements by taking one of the following English Language proficiency tests. The assessment may involve reading, writing, speaking, and listening. The minimum score required can differ depending on the program.
Below is a summary of the minimum scores that are acceptable.

Canadian Language Benchmark Placement Test (CLB) | Minimum 7 in each skill band |
Pearson Test of English Academic (PTE-A) | 58 overall, minimum of 48 in Listening; 53 in Reading; 46 in Speaking; and 62 in Writing |
ITEP Academic | Minimum score of 3.9 |
LanguageCert Academic | 73 overall, minimum of 65 in each skill band |
Note: English proficiency tests must have been completed within 24 months of the program start date.
English Pathway Partnerships
If you need to improve your English skills before starting a program you may choose to explore a pathway program with one of JIBC’s language partners. Each of these pathway programs allows you to complete the program and seamlessly enter JIBC without having to take additional English entrance tests.
