Course Details

Through classroom presentations, demonstrations and practical drills and ~xercises, students will gain the knowledge needed to be able to participate in a ship's emergency fire teams. This Marine Emergency Duties, Domestic Vessel Safety course is based on the requirements of Transport Canada TP 4957, Chapter 5. It was developed to comply with the requirements of the Marine Personnel Regulations on minimum training in personal survival techniques and fire fighting for Canadian seafarers sailing on board passenger vessels, workboats or fishing vessels engaged on a voyage in Canadian waters. It also replaces the FIRE-1401 MED Al and FIRE-1402 MED A2 courses. MED-DVS is a skills-based course delivered at the JIBC Maple Ridge campus. The training is offered in collaboration with the British Columbia Institute of Technology (BCIT), who delivers at its Marine campus the requirements of Transport Canada TP4957, Chapter 5 that are not covered in this course. REGISTRATION INFORMATION: A valid seafarer's medical is required certifying that the candidate is fit without limitations that would affect the safety of the candidate, other participants or the instructors on the course. Candidates must be a minimum of 15 years of age. Candidates must register for this course through BCIT.
