Course Details
In this course, participants will examine the moral and ethical issues that exist within the context of both law enforcement and independent investigations. This course will begin from a foundation of the history and principle of ethics in order to help examine the major components of the Criminal Justice System: policing, the courts and corrections. Discussion will focus upon personal values, individual responsibility, decision-making, discretion, and the structure of accountability. Specific topics to be covered include core values, codes of conduct, ethical dilemmas, organizational consequences, liability and the importance of critical thinking. Upon conclusion of the course, participants will be able to critically consider contemporary ethical issues and recognize their application in their own practice.
