Course Details
Building a solid rapport in the supervisor-supervisee relationship is the foundation of an effective supervisory alliance. Studies on the topic of interpersonal neurobiology and neuroscience provide evidence for the need to enhance relational awareness and competencies in clinical supervision. Moreover, research has found a positive correlation between the strength of a supervisory alliance and supervisees' self-efficacy, as well as the supervisees' professional relationships with clients and outcomes of the supervisory experience.
In this course, learners will gain insights concerning effective supervision and how to apply relational models within the supervisory process. The experiential learning in this course will take place in a supportive community.
This course will offer learners the chance to develop deeper awareness of intra-personal and interpersonal processes which include: greater awareness of what is happening within the supervisor, within the supervisee, and between the supervisor and the supervisee during the supervision process. There will be an emphasis on the development of the supervisee and the supervisor through the practice and embodiment of relational competencies in clinical supervision. This applied clinical supervision course emphasizes experiential, hands-on learning. Participants will engage in a practical final assignment that includes role-play activities, allowing you to integrate course concepts in a supportive and meaningful way.
Note: To be suitable for this course students should have five years counselling experience and a counselling or related designation. Prior to the course start date you will be contacted and asked to clarify your experience and education. If you do not have the suitable experience to take the course you may be required to withdraw and will be issued a full refund.
Important course information:
This course includes an orientation and pre-reading package (approximately 2- 4 hours) which will be sent two weeks prior to the course start date. To complete the course, learners must successfully pass a final assignment, which typically takes place within two weeks following the three-day course and may involve small-group work and a scheduled role-play presentation with the instructor.
The instructor will work to offer mutually convenient times, and learners will be able to sign up for a session. Accommodations or adjustments can be arranged as needed to support your learning experience.
