Course Details

Learners who have successfully completed Basic Security Training (BST) Theory meet the eligibility requirements for BST Assessment. Together these two courses constitute the training requirement for becoming a security guard in British Columbia under the Security Services Act (SSA). The theory is the first step and the assessment is the second step towards meeting the application requirements of the Security Worker Licence. Learners will be assessed on the expected learning outcomes of BST Theory, with attention to knowledge and awareness for a security guard's legal authorities to act, and to recognize that public and personal safety must always be their priority. The assessment includes the fundamental knowledge required by Security Workers to perform their function safely, legally, and effectively. Administrative Notes: . There is a two (2) hour timeline to complete the assessment. . Must complete the assessment within six (6) months of completing SCRT-1651 BST Theory. . Students must be 19 years of age to be eligible to apply for a Security Worker License in B.C. . Security Guards must be licensed to work in B.C. There is a 40-hour training requirement to obtain a licence under the Security Services Act (SSA).
