The Choose to Challenge Award provides financial support for students enrolled in an eligible degree,
diploma, or certificate program of 10 credits or more. The award was established in 2021 as part of the
Justice Institute of British Columbia (JIBC) International Women’s Day virtual event. Funds were
provided by attendees and through The JIBC Foundation from the Rix Family Foundation Endowment.

One award of $1,000 is available annually.
Eligibility Criteria
- Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or have refugee status;
- Enrolled in an eligible degree, diploma, or certificate program of 10 credits or more;
- Demonstrated involvement in school and/or community activities, especially volunteering, in which they have actively contributed to challenging gender bias and inequality. Supported by a letter of reference.
