The School of Public Safety trains professionals to help communities respond to and recover from emergencies. Gain hands-on experience and expert instruction for careers in emergency management, disaster response, and security.

Emergency Management
The Emergency Management Division trains Canada’s future public safety leaders in disaster planning, crisis response, and security. Graduates are prepared for careers as emergency managers, disaster planners, and security professionals—helping communities mitigate risks and respond to crises with confidence.
Firefighting
The Fire & Safety Division provides industry-leading training for both new and experienced firefighters. Our programs exceed provincial and national standards, ensuring graduates are fully prepared to protect communities. Recognized by nearly 400 fire departments, our training builds the skills needed to handle emergencies with professionalism and expertise.
Search & Rescue
As part of JIBC’s Emergency Management Division, the Search & Rescue program offers hands-on training for registered volunteers. Participants develop critical leadership and operational skills to coordinate search and rescue efforts in British Columbia, across Canada, and internationally saving lives when it matters most.
