At the Justice Institute of British Columbia (JIBC), we are committed to fostering a culture where every individual—regardless of background, identity, or ability—feels valued, included, and empowered. Our vision of safer communities and a more just society is only possible when everyone has equitable access to opportunities and experiences. Through our Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) Plan and our Accessibility Plan, we are taking concrete steps to remove barriers, promote inclusivity, and create a welcoming environment for all members of our community.

Equity, Diversity & Inclusion (EDI) Plan

JIBC’s EDI Plan: Empowering Every Voice 2025 is a vital framework for advancing our institutional commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion. Aligned with our 2022-2027 Strategic Plan, this plan lays out clear, actionable steps to ensure that all students, faculty, staff, and partners experience a sense of belonging and purpose. We recognize that our strength lies in the diverse perspectives, backgrounds, and experiences that enrich our learning environment and enhance our ability to serve communities effectively. By embedding EDI principles across all aspects of our operations, we continue to build a more inclusive, supportive, and engaged JIBC community.

Accessibility Plan

As part of our commitment to inclusivity, JIBC is actively working to remove barriers and increase access for individuals with disabilities. Our Accessibility Plan aligns with the Accessible British Columbia Act (2021), a landmark piece of legislation aimed at fostering greater independence and inclusion across B.C. JIBC is proud to be part of the early implementation of this initiative, ensuring that our institution remains at the forefront of accessibility advancements. Through engagement with campus partners and individuals with lived experience, we are developing a robust accessibility plan that reflects real needs and priorities. An Accessibility Committee has been established to guide this work, ensuring meaningful and lasting improvements in accessibility across our campuses.

We encourage any feedback on the plan and any initiatives to improve accessibility at JIBC. Please send your questions and comments to accessibility@jibc.ca.
