Course Details

Why are some people, communities, and organizations more resilient than others? Analyze theories of resilience, as well as lessons learned from disasters around the world. Examine ways to build resiliency and the role building resiliency capacity plays in all phases of emergency management. Students will have the opportunity to apply resiliency concepts to disaster case studies. (Formerly ESM471)

SPECIAL, CONDENSED OFFERING: From MAY 31 - June 27, 2021, JIBC is offering a 4-week version of this course (21SS-ESMS-4310-OL001 and OLX01).

This is an active course with students involved in a combination of hands-on activities, online discussion, and writing one short paper. There will be weekly, online presentations provided live and recorded (schedule to be provided at the start of the course).

This course offering is open to the public and to students in the diploma/bachelor of Emergency and Security Management Studies. This is a great opportunity to learn the theory behind how emergency management planning in Canada. Non-program students can take this course on an Audit (non-credit) basis. Audit students are not required to complete course assignments and will not receive credit for the course. Non-program students can register by calling 604-528-5590. Course prerequisites will be overridden at the time of registration.
