The School of Public Safety & Security offers programs in seven areas. Because safety and security professionals increasingly work together in teams, the School emphasizes cross-disciplinary understanding, collaborative processes and effective communication skills.

  • The Centre for Court Administration develops and delivers accredited training for court administration staff within the Court Services Branch of the Ministry of Attorney General. The Centre offers foundational training for new hires and continuing professional development for existing Court Administration employees.
  • Corrections & Community Justice Division trains professionals who work with adult and youth offenders in provincial institutional and community settings, to manage the risk they pose to the public and support their rehabilitation. CCJD educates Family Justice Counsellors to assist families experiencing separation and divorce.
  • For more than 20 years, the Emergency Management Division has been educating students, organizations and communities to prepare for, mitigate, respond to and recover from emergencies and disasters. Choose from our experience-based certificate programs, or our new academic offerings, including our new diploma Bachelor of Emergency and Security Management Studies.
  • The Fire & Safety Division meets the educational needs of career and volunteer fire fighters, as well as industrial and marine personnel engaged in emergency response. Programs are offered to meet the lifelong educational needs of fire service personnel, from introductory hands-on courses to advanced diploma and degree programs.
  • The Justice & Public Safety Division strengthens the overall network of security that supports community safety. The Division offers professional programs for public and private sector clients. Their goal is to support the highest standards in security training and certification.
  • Pacific Traffic Education Centre (PTEC) aims to save lives and prevent injuries by producing better drivers.
  • The Police Academy is responsible for training all municipal police recruits in British Columbia. The Academy also offers online courses for experienced police officers.
  • The Sheriff Academy develops and delivers training for Court Services Sheriffs in the province of B.C. Through our Threat Management Centre of Excellence we offer specialized training - both online and face-to-face - in high security trial management, protective intelligence and risk and threat assessment for individuals and facilities.
