The SOHS Paramedic Academy is the most prominent provider of First Responder Provider (FR), Emergency Medical Responder (EMR), Primary Care Paramedic (PCP) and Advanced Care Paramedic (ACP) training in British Columbia.

Today, paramedics can be found in settings beyond the traditional ambulance environment – they are assisting physicians and nurses in emergency rooms, supporting patients with in-home care, working in industry and providing public health education in the community.  Their extensive knowledge and clinical background has enabled many paramedics to move on to medical schools, nursing programs and other health fields.

The SOHS PCP and ACP programs are the only paramedic programs in British Columbia that are accredited by the Canadian Medical Association and certified by the International Standards Association.

The First Responder training is for anyone who is the first to respond to an emergency. Examples include fire departments, police, safety and security personnel at sporting events, staff in recreation facilities, and staff in special care facilities to name a few.

Further credentials are available to professionals through the School of Health Sciences graduate studies path that include the Diploma in Health Sciences (EMS), and pending approval from the Ministry of Regional Economic and Skills Development, a Bachelor of Sciences (EMS).
